Frequently Asked Questions
New to Barefoot? Here are answers to the questions we hear most. Can’t find what you’re looking for? Just get in touch.
I’ve never tried Nia or yoga before — is that okay?
Absolutely. Our classes are designed for every body and every level, and complete beginners are always welcome. There are no steps to get ‘right’ — just move in the way that feels good to you. New students can also try a class for free.
Do I need to book in advance?
Yes, we recommend booking online through our timetable so we can save your place.
How fit or flexible do I need to be?
If you are unsure, please contact the class facilitator to check the skill level of the class. In Nia, every movement can be adjusted to suit all body types and all levels of movement capability. Come exactly as you are.
Do I have to be barefoot to attend class?
There is a no outdoor shoes policy and we kindly request that you wear grippy socks or indoor shoes that you change into on arrival if you are uncomfortable being barefoot.
I have a health issue. What should I do?
You must notify your teacher of any health issue which may affect your ability to participate in class. On booking for the first time you will be asked to sign a health and wellness waiver. If your circumstances have changed since signing one, please let your teacher know ahead of your next class.
What should I wear and bring to a Nia class?
Wear comfortable clothing you can move freely in. We practise barefoot (grippy socks are fine if you prefer), so there’s no need for shoes. Just bring a bottle of water; mats and any equipment you need are provided.
What is ‘Nia: Moving to Heal’?
Moving to Heal is a gentler, therapeutic form of Nia — ideal if you’re managing injury, illness or limited mobility, or simply prefer a slower pace.
Can I hire the studio?
Yes — our two spaces, The Haven and The Groove, are available to hire for classes, workshops, therapies and events. Visit our Studio Hire page to make an enquiry.
Is the studio wheelchair accessible?
Unfortunately, the studio can only be accessed via external stairs. As tenants in an old building we have little control over access infrastructure. If you need more information, please contact us or your teacher before booking.
Where are you, and is there parking?
We’re at 49A Cregagh Road, Belfast, BT6 8PX. Free street parking is available on the surrounding streets.
