The Art of Sensation: A review

Movement, Music, Magic.

A fantastic week spent with 12 enthusiastic and insightful practitioners, diving deep into sensation through movement.

As I walked along the coastal path towards Whiteabbey on Sunday afternoon, I felt a slight pain in my left hip joint. I walked on; it didn’t go away. I mentally scanned the rest of my body and landed on the acute pleasure I felt in the palm of my right hand, held as it was by Paddy. This was exactly where I wanted to be at that moment.

Ok then, I thought. What does my left hip need right now? And the answer came back: try stability. So I concentrated my attention onto pushing into the outside edge of my feet as I walked, bringing them into a more parallel positing. And low and behold, the hip pain soon left.

So what was the Art of Sensation week about?

Well, we danced. And we talked. We laughed and some of us cried. We listened to each other and also to ourselves and tapped into innate wisdom within each of us to learn, if we have the tools and the desire, what our bodies have been trying to tell us all along: that we have choices. Every day and in every moment.

Through the rich curriculum of 13 principles we set out on our journey of discovery. Those of you who have known me for some time will know I am already a firm believer that through movement we find health. This week, I discovered a more profound understanding of my relationship with my body which I will continue to process and investigate, that I choose to dance through life and one day, as Ann put it, return happy bones to Mother Earth. What a gift.

So how was it for you?
